Clay County rolls past Donoho 34-0

Wind, rain, lightning and the Donoho defense couldnt stop powerful Clay County on Friday night at Lentz Field.

Clay County ran its way over and through the Donoho Falcons on its way to a 34-0 victory.

It didnt take long for the Panthers to assert themselves. Jose Bermudez connected on a 41-yard field goal with 7:31 left in the first quarter to give the Panthers an early 3-0 lead. Bermudez would also add a 37-yard field goal later in the game.

Clay County forced a Donoho punt and would march 85 yards for its next score. Senior running back Dewayne Duncan capped the drive when he scored from the 10-yard line to give Clay County a 10-0 advantage.

Duncan rolled up 154 yards on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns. Clay County amassed 400 yards of total offense, 365 of those yards with a powerful running game.

Led by standout running back Lance Rolax, the Donoho offense mustered 59 yards. The Panther defense held Rolax in check, allowing him 37 yards on 14 carries.

Our defense played well, said Clay County coach Danny Horn. In the second half, we played much better.

With 10:51 remaining in the first half, Brian Glenn scored on a 50-yard punt return after outrunning the Donoho special teams down the sidelines to put the score at 17-0.

Kevin Pitts got things going for the Panther offense to start the second half, when he went unmolested on a 71-yard quarterback keeper to lengthen the Panthers lead to 27-0.

I got a read, and the hole was blocked, so I took it to the outside, said Pitts. Im not very fast, but I got loose on that one.

With 7:53 remaining in the third quarter, it was Duncan again who found the end zone and closed out the scoring. Horn had high praise for the overmatched Falcons.

Theyre scrappy and well-coached, said Horn. When youve got 16-17 players, its just hard.
